Dive Insight:
According to Stellantis, its commercial vehicle business currently accounts for a third of its net revenues, with sales of 1.6 million vehicles a year, but the company is hoping the debut of Pro One will help it achieve its goal of a 40% electric-vehicle sales mix that will generate $5.3 billion (5 billion euros) in service revenues.
The commercial lineup of Pro One vehicles will span six Stellantis brands, including Citroën, Fiat, Opel, Peugeot, Ram and Vauxhall. The commercial vehicles will include five vans, 10 pickup trucks, and one micro-mobility offering, according to the press release.
The commercial vehicles will also include a factory-built version of a large delivery van, which is designed to improve efficiency for drivers, including a roll-up door at the back and a pocket door.
Four of the new electrified Pro One vehicles will launch in North America over the next two years, including the Ram ProMaster EV and 2025 Ram 1500 REV and a hydrogen-powered vehicle.
The connected software for the Stellantis’ Pro One vehicles will include service packs for preventive maintenance, task management software and eco-drive coaching to help drivers improve efficiency. Stellantis says it will have 100% of its new vans and pickups connected by the end of 2023. The vehicles will be capable of receiving over-the-air updates beginning in 2026.
Stellantis will employ brand product specialists and content advisors to help commercial customers select the vehicles, equipment configurations and services they need.
The Pro One strategy includes a retrofit program with Stellantis’ strategic partner Qinomic, a company that specializes in converting light commercial vehicles with an internal combustion engine to an electric drivetrain. It allows customers to switch to zero emissions and reduce total cost of ownership, while keeping their existing Stellantis vehicles.
Pro One will also help Stellantis achieve its Dare Forward 2030 objectives, which includes battery electric vehicles accounting for 100% of its passenger car sales in Europe and 50% of passenger cars and light-duty truck sales in the U.S. by 2030.
Pro One is similar to Ford’s commercial business Ford Pro, which was announced in May 2021 as a separate business within Ford. At launch, Ford Pro included a lineup of combustion-engine and hybrid commercial vehicles with future EVs planned. Ford is also offering digital services, which are integrated into the vehicles to help commercial customers better manage and maintain their fleets.
