General Motors hired longtime technology executive Barak Turovsky as its first-ever chief AI officer, the automaker told Automotive Dive in an email.

Turovsky announced his appointment, which was effective Monday, in a LinkedIn post, saying that “it’s an incredible time to be part of GM’s transformative journey.” He reports to Dave Richardson, SVP of software and services engineering.
Incorporating use of AI throughout its operations is a priority for GM as it seeks ways to develop new technologies faster especially in the autonomous and electric vehicle segments. GM said Turovsky will guide the company in setting its AI vision and strategy.
“AI is central to GM’s EV, ICE, and autonomous future,” Richardson said in an emailed statement. “ With deep expertise, Barak will accelerate the team’s AI efforts, including enhancing products, optimizing operations, and improving the customer experience.”
Turovsky most recently was VP of AI at Cisco and previously held leadership roles at Google as head of product, languages AI. He has more than 25 years of experience working with AI technology.
Turovsky said in his LinkedIn post that he is eager to contribute to GM’s innovation in applying AI to automotive technology.
“I recently visited the Smithsonian with my family and was truly inspired by the legacy of Chevrolet and Cadillac, and its enormous contribution to modern American and global history,” he wrote. “GM has a remarkable culture of builders, and it’s an honor to contribute to the next chapter of such an iconic company.”
