Toyota Motor Corp.’s chief risk officer and chief compliance officer, Jun Nagata, has resigned from the company, per a Nov. 27 press release, leaving other executives at the global automaker to take on those roles.
Before his resignation, Nagata had a long career at Toyota, first joining the company in 1990, the same year he graduated from college.
He held various sales roles at the company before being promoted to an operating officer position in January 2021 upon his appointment as chief communications officer. In January 2022, he also became the chief officer of the external and public affairs group. Nagata left both roles to become the chief risk officer and chief compliance officer in April 2024, before tendering his resignation months later.
Two current Toyota executives will take on Nagata’s responsibilities as of Jan. 1, 2025:
- Takanori Azuma, will take on the role of chief risk officer in addition to his existing duties. Azuma is the company’s current chief human resources officer and chief officer for the general administration and human resources group. He has also served as an external board member for Woven by Toyota, Toyota’s mobility technology subsidiary, since April 2023.
- Yoji Matsuyama, will take on the role of chief compliance officer in addition to his current responsibilities. Matsuyama is currently Toyota’s deputy chief officer for the general administration and human resources group and senior general manager for the company’s sustainability management division. Having first joined in 1992, he has also held roles in the company’s purchasing group, and on external boards and councils.
The C-suite executive moves were announced as part of a wave of changes to Toyota’s senior management appointments, which also included naming new officers to the company’s production group and Woven by Toyota.
