More than 1,000 UAW members at Stellantis’ Warren Stamping Plant in Michigan will hold a strike authorization vote on Monday.
The union claims the automaker has failed to resolve health, safety and outside contractor grievances at the plant, according to a news release. The Warren Stamping facility supplies over half a dozen Stellantis plants in North America, the UAW said, and any work stoppage could affect production of the Dodge RAM, Jeep Wrangler and Jeep Wagoneer.
In an emailed statement to Automotive Dive, Stellantis said it is committed to providing a safe and healthy work environment for all employees.
“The Company is in discussions with UAW Local 869 to assess open health and safety grievances at the Warren (Michigan) Stamping Plant and aims to resolve this matter without a work stoppage,” the statement said.
UAW Local 869 President Romaine McKinney III said in the release that the facility floods when it rains because the ceiling is leaking.
“We have to fight for every single pair of work gloves, while we handle metal and materials to build world class vehicles for Stellantis,” he continued. “The list goes on, and we’re putting an end to it.”
Aside from flooding and personal protective equipment issues, the UAW alleges the Stellantis plant has problems with ventilation fans, ergo matting, basement lighting and flooring, restrooms, oil leaks, overall sanitation and more.
The upcoming vote on grievance issues comes after Local 869 voted to authorize a strike stemming from local contract issues on April 2.
